Interested in Becoming a Parish Councillor?
Kents Hill & Monkston Parish Council is keen to hear from residents who may be interested in standing for election or putting themselves forward for co-option when opportunities arise.
Parish Councillors are the closest level of elected representatives to the local community. They play a crucial role in shaping the places where we live and work, representing the views of residents, influencing decisions, and helping to ensure that local services and amenities reflect the needs and priorities of the area.
Whether it’s supporting the improvement of local parks and open spaces, overseeing the management of community facilities, responding to planning consultations, or championing community wellbeing, Parish Councillors have the opportunity to make a tangible difference.
What Does a Parish Councillor Do?
As a Parish Councillor, you would:
- Represent the views and interests of local residents.

- Monitor and influence the maintenance of local assets such as noticeboards, bins, allotments, and community spaces.
- Contribute to the development of council policies and strategic plans.
- Engage with community groups, residents, and local authorities.
You don’t need to be a political expert or have prior experience. What matters most is a commitment to your community, a willingness to work as part of a team, and the time and enthusiasm to contribute effectively.
